Number of points for the ranking is determined as the weighted average number of points corresponding to the results of the new matura or the old matura in subjects specific to the field of study.

Points for the ranking (R) are calculated using the formula:

R = 0,20 b1 + 0,20 b2 + 0,20 c1 + 0,20 c2 + 0,05 m1 + 0,05 m2 + 0,05 o1 + 0,05 o2

where:

b1, b2 – points for Biology
c1, c2 – points for Chemistry
m1, m2 – points for Mathematics
o1, o2 – points for Modern foreign language

One ranked list is created for all candidates. Points for individual subjects are calculated as follows:

candidates with the new matura:

candidates with the old matura

b1 – points for the oral exam in Biology

b2 – points for the written exam in Biology

c1 – points for the oral exam in Chemistry

c2 – points for the written exam in Chemistry

m1 – points for the oral exam in Mathematics

m2 – points for the written exam in Mathematics

o1 – points for the oral exam in Modern Foreign Language

o2 – points for the written exam in Modern Foreign Language

d2– points for the written exam in Physics and Astronomy or Informatics

If there is no points or ratings of the required exam for a specific subject in the graduation certificate of secondary education, the ranking value is set to zero points.

If there is no grade for a written exam in the graduation certificate of secondary education but such a grade is expected in the qualification procedure, the oral exam grade is taken as the written exam grade and vice versa if there is no grade for an oral exam for a specific subject, the written exam grade is taken as the oral exam grade.

1,5 - year second degree studies, upon the completion of which the title of magister (Master of Science) is granted.

Enrollment procedure

Admission to second degree studies is restricted to persons who hold the title of master's degree (MSc), engineer, bachelor's degree (BSc) or equivalent.

The candidates are admitted according to the ranking list based on the adjusted score indicated on the completed studies diploma and the compatibility or relatedness of completed studies with the selected second degree course.

If the completed course :

  • is compatible with the second degree course, the number of points scored is equal to the adjusted score indicated on the diploma plus two,
  • is related to the second degree course, the number of points scored is equal to the adjusted score indicated on the diploma plus one,
  • is neither compatible nor related to the second degree course, then the score is equal to the adjusted score indicated on the diploma.

A first degree course is compatible with the selected second degree course if it is the same type of course (with the title bachelor's degree (BSc), engineer or equivalent).

Related courses are: economy, informatics, mathematics, computer science and econometrics.

In the case of the same place in ranking list an additional criterion is the adjusted score of a diploma examination grade.

The final grade, grades for the completed courses and the mean grades (S) granted according to grading systems in other schools and universities are adjusted to the final grade, grades and mean grades (N) according to the grading system used in the University of Zielona Gora according to the following formula: N = 3 ( S-m) / (M – m) + 2, where M is the maximum and m is the minimum (unsatisfactory/failing) grade used in the other schools or universities.

The candidates accepted for the second degree course may be required to meet additional prerequisites due to curricular differences in general subjects in the first degree of study. The deadlines will be set by the Dean.

Mode of study

Full time second degree studies, only persons who have a masters degree, an engineer, a bachelor's degree or an equivalent degree are entitled to take up second-cycle studies.

Enrollment procedure

Candidates for studies are accepted according to the order on the ranking list based on the scores:

  • for the calculated result of graduation inscribed into the diploma,
  • for compliance or affinity of the course of completed studies with the selected second-cycle studies.

The direction of completed studies with the selected second-cycle studies is:

  • compatible when it is the same field of completed first-cycle studies (with the bachelor's degree, engineer's degree or equivalent degree),
  • related when it is the direction such as:
  • public administration
  • national security
  • economics
  • philology
  • Polish philology
  • philosophy
  • history
  • education
  • political science
  • psychology
  • international relations.

In the case where the course of completed studies:

  • is in line with the second-cycle program, then the number of credits equals the calculated result of graduation plus two points,
  • is related to the second-cycle studies, then the number of points equals the calculated result of graduation plus one point,
  • is neither consistent nor related to the second-cycle studies, then the number of points equals the converted result of the completion of studies.

As an additional criterion, the number of points for the converted grade from the diploma exam is taken into account.

The result of the completion of studies and grades and average S determined according to the grading scale used at other universities, are translated into the result such as grades and average N in the grading scale used at the University of Zielona Góra in accordance with the formula below:

N=3(S-m)/(M-m)+2

the letters symbolise:

  • M - is the maximum,
  • m - a minimum (insufficient) grade according to the scale applied at another university.

Persons admitted to the second-cycle studies may be required to supplement the curriculum differences concerning general knowledge in the scope of first-cycle studies within the dates set by the dean.

Graduate profile

Sociology belongs to the social sciences. It is an internally diverse discipline. Second level studies deepen knowledge, broaden the scope of skills and develop social competences obtained as part of the first-cycle program. In addition, a graduate of this study learns the complex mechanisms of functioning of social life. A graduate of the second degree studies knows and is able to apply in empirical studies both classical and contemporary social theories as well as traditional and innovative research strategies (methods, techniques, tools). She/He is also prepared to perform the function of an expert in the field of applied research for organizational units of all sectors of social life. As part of the second-cycle studies, it is possible to pursue a general path, with specialty - a social data analyst or social communication (the students decide which specialty is going to be chosen – by voting. If there are not enough students to create two groups of different specialties then majority decides about the specialty). Graduates may continue their education in other fields of humanities and social sciences as part of third-cycle studies and, in accordance with the idea of the Bologna process, in any other field they choose if only pre-requisites regarding the acquired learning outcomes are met.

A graduate of these studies can find employment in the office of a spokesperson for various private and state institutions and local government - as adviser-analyst of the voivodship marshal or voivode; works in social assistance centers; in governmental institutions as an "data analysis expert" diagnosing social, cultural and human trends based on data from empirical data; an analyst in non-profit organizations - in business as a PR specialist and media and company image analysis as well as a press spokesman in companies or public opinion research centers.

Full time second degree studies, upon the completion of which the title of magister (Master of Science) is granted (within one of the following specialties: computer physics, general physics, environmental physics, theoretical physics – the specialty is selected in the first year of study), after passing the final examination in the second year of study.

Enrollment procedure

Admission to second degree studies is restricted to persons who hold the title of magister (MSc), engineer, licencjat (BSc) or equivalent.

The candidates are admitted according to the ranking list based on the adjusted score indicated on the completed studies diploma and the compatibility or relativity of completed studies with the selected second degree course.

A first degree course is compatible with the selected second degree course if it is the same type of course (with the licencjat (BSc), engineer or equivalent title).

A first degree course is relative to the selected second degree course if it is a different type of course.

The following courses are considered relative:

  • to the physics course, courses: technical physics, astronomy, mathematics, computer studies, electrical engineering,
  • to the astronomy course, courses: physics, technical physics.

If the completed course:

  • is compatibile with the second degree course, the number of points scored is equal to the adjusted score indicated on the diploma plus two,
  • is relative to the second degree course, the number of points scored is equal to the adjusted score indicated on the diploma plus one,
  • is neither compatible nor relative to the second degree course, then the score is equal to the adjusted score indicated on the diploma.

As an additional criterion, a score is assigned according to the following ordered rule:
1. For the adjusted diploma examination grade.

The final grade, grades for the completed courss and the means S granted according to grading systems in other schools and universities are adjusted to the final grade, grades and means N according to the grading system used in the University of Zielona Gora according to the following formula: N = 3 ( S-m) / (M – m) + 2, where M is the maximu, m the minimum (unsatisfactory/failing) grade used in the other schools or universities.

The candidates accepted for the second degree course may be required to meet additional prerequisites due to curricular differences in general subjects in the first degree of study. The deadlines will be set by the Dean.

The specialty will start if enough candidates are enrolled. The decision is taken by the Dean.
